Top fitness trends of 2018

The New Year is a great time to start a new fitness routine, or just change up your current one. We’ve rounded up some of the fitness trends you’ll see in 2018.

Yoga: Yoga remains one of the top trends in exercise as it offers both mental and physical benefits. Whole Health includes mental health, too! Yoga appeals to a wide audience and people can choose from both traditional (Power Yoga, Yogalates and Bikram Yoga) yoga, and more unusual forms (Goat Yoga, Beer Yoga, even Naked Yoga).

Exercise for older adults: With an ever increasing life expectancy, older adults are turning to exercise later in life. Baby boomers, those aged 52 to 70, and seniors aged 70 or older, may have to go about it more carefully than others, but there are benefits which include improved mobility and strength.

Seniors can join walking clubs where they can socialize and get fit. Balance classes help prevent falls later in life. Swimming and water aerobics offer effective, low-impact exercise that older adults can enjoy. Functional fitness, below, is great for the older adult, too.

Functional fitness: This form of exercise is about training for life rather than just exercising before an event to fit into that dress or suit. It’s about improving strength and balance to stay in shape all year round.

Functional fitness incorporates exercises that improve balance and coordination, strength and range of motion. They are done on the ground and work several muscle groups at once. Try climbing stairs while doing bicep curls or reaching diagonally with a medicine ball to target multiple muscle groups.

Group exercise: When you browse your gym’s group exercise schedule, you’ll likely notice a lot of group classes, and for good reason. Exercising in a group setting can be motivating and encouraging. You have others to support and even challenge you.

One recent study revealed that those who worked out in a group benefited from lower stress levels and bigger improvements in mental, physical and emotional qualities of life than those who worked out alone.1

PURE’s Rally28 program has a community of like-minded people who together offer support to one another. Participate in the R28 Challenge as an individual or become the Captain of a Rally28 team and earn some fantastic prizes, not to mention feeling great and learning healthier habits. Encourage your team to join you for a class or schedule a power walk together.

Fitness technology: With all the gadgets out there to keep you healthy, it’s no longer necessary to pay for an expensive gym membership. With a smartwatch, a fitness tracker, books, online videos, live-streaming classes, or even fitness apps, it’s more convenient and cheaper than ever to exercise.

Try the 7-Minute Workout Challenge app. This research-based, high-intensity workout program is simple, yet effective. It incorporates 12 exercises that are performed for 30 seconds with 10-second rest intervals.

Exercising with pets: Today it’s easy to find an exercise class that allows your pet to join in on the fun. Dogs especially make great fitness companions. People even exercise with goats!

Leash your Fitness in San Diego, California, brings both you and your dog in a circuit style workout that will train cardio, strength, balance, yoga and dog obedience all in a one-hour workout.

At Fitness with Fido in St. Louis, Missouri, classes focus on different parts of your and your dog’s body, and includes strength and conditioning, yoga, Pilates, cardio and massage.

Virtual reality fitness: If leaving home to exercise isn’t your cup of tea, virtual reality workouts may be for you.

The Omni by Virtuix is a 360° small treadmill connects to a game and allows you to run, pivot, jump and crouch while wearing sneakers that interact with sensors on the treadmill.

Dear future/healthier self …

First, I want you to know how proud I am of you for making some really good choices this past year. You exercised when you could, you ate healthier, and you made an effort to sleep more. You made some bad choices, too, and that’s okay. I know how hard it is between work, stress, money, other people – things just get in the way of your goals. I get it.

We’re at the end of 2017 and you’re going to get another chance in the New Year to really pursue wellness like you’ve never done before. I want you to be honest with yourself and the people around you. This is your life and your health. I want you to give it your all the next 365 days to live your heathiest life ever. You can do this!

Keep this letter close at hand to reference when you get stuck or fall short. These reminders will get you back on track to living a lifestyle of Whole Health. When you think about it, 365 days really isn’t that long; this past year sure flew by. Imagine how great you’ll feel and how different you’ll look on December 31, 2018. Looks pretty good, right?

You might be thinking that things look pretty good right now. Maybe so. But, I think you can make some changes in the New Year that will make an even bigger difference. Again, read over the following recommendations and see where you’ve fallen short in the past and where you can focus more effort.

  • Sleep at least 8 hours a night. Get yourself into a good routine.
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables. Have at least one apple every day. Munch on carrots at work. Incorporate more products by PURE into your daily routine.
  • Focus on the simpler things; they matter the most. Keep love in your heart and make an effort to pay that love forward to those around you.
  • Exercise at least three times a week. Take walks. Go that Zumba or weight-lifting class. Take care of your body by squatting to pick up something heavy. Keep track and watch your progress. Take part in Rally28.
  • Do things you love, including travel. You don’t have to go far. Simply visit places that inspire you. New experiences are refreshing and healthy. Work hard to take part in a PURE Incentive trip.
  • Take a class at your local community college. What is your passion? Writing, music, art, psychology? Read a book a month. Learn something new. Educate yourself on products by PURE. Visit our blog, our website, and listen to our podcasts. There’s a wealth of knowledge out there.
  • Give back however small. Helping others is one of life’s greatest gifts and can help make others’ lives healthier, too. Introduce someone to PURE. Transform lives with your purchase of an H20 Filtration System.
  • Take time for yourself. The more tired you are, the harder it will be to take care of yourself. And, you can’t help others unless you are your best.
  • Laugh and smile! Read some humor, watch funny videos, listen to children tell jokes. Laughter really is the best medicine.
  • Be grateful for what you have. There is too much sadness and hatred in this world. You have so much to be thankful for and you can share that with others.
  • There is no room for regrets, something which brings on emotional pain. Everyone makes mistakes, but everything happens for a reason. Let it be.
  • Live is too short to not enjoy every second of it. EVERY SECOND.

2018 is your year! I can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Making your 2017 New Year’s Resolution(s) Stick

resolutions2017_1216The year 2016 has flown by and I am ready for the excitement that 2017 will bring! I am carrying forward several accomplishments from the year: I took two great vacations, I made some new life-long friends, and I achieved a cycling personal record.

I usually start writing my resolutions list on January 1. I will likely include things like: Finish that novel; eat more salad; and, lose weight.

Research has shown that 45% of Americans will make a New Year’s resolution; some of the top ones include losing weight, getting organized, saving money, staying fit, learning a new skill, and enjoying life to the fullest.1

People who make resolutions are ten times more likely to retain their goals than people who don’t make resolutions. The end of every year is a great time to assess prior accomplishments, whether personal or professional, and plan for the coming year.

Here are some tips to help you stick with your resolution(s), and succeed, in 2017:

  1. Break it down: Don’t use the New Year to create a large bucket list of goals to accomplish, either personal or professional. You may have a big goal, but breaking it down into milestones will help keep your spirits up and easily see your own progress. For example, if you set a weight loss goal, exercise more, quit smoking, and manage your stress, chances are you will not meet those expectations set for yourself.  Trying to tackle too many goals at once can leave you overwhelmed and eventually abandoning all goals.  Instead pick one or two goals to manage at a time.
  2. Be Specific: Setting specific goals can lead to greater performance. If you want to lose weight, for example, change “I want to lose 20 pounds in 3 weeks,” to “I want to be able to do 100 pushups within 3 months,” or “I want to be able to complete a 5K in my hometown.”
  3. Find a partner: Share your weight loss goals with a family member and/or friend. Find a buddy with similar goals so you can motivate each other to stay on track. By asking for support, you’re able to strengthen your own resiliency.
  4. Don’t let the bumps in the road get you off track. Make sure you’re able to attach personal value to your goals and focus on progress each step of the way. Be sure to self-reflect throughout the year, not just on December 31. Ask yourself: Am I on track with my goals? What changes can help me achieve success? Are there other changes in my life I can tackle?
  5. Find a program that helps you stay on track. Genesis PURE’s new Rally28 weight-management system offers a simple, yet effective way to help you change your body and your life. A winning combination of Genesis PURE’s proprietary Craving-Control Technology and sustainable fat-burning ingredients support weight loss while you develop healthier habits for real, lasting results. Learn more at rally28.com.

Once you’ve accomplished your goals, be sure to check in periodically to ensure you don’t backtrack. I hope these guidelines can be put to good use and help you achieve your goals for 2017.

All of us at Genesis PURE wish you a New Year of Whole Health!

6 reasons to embrace a healthier lifestyle in 2017

new-year
“This year I’m going to exercise and lose weight.” Sound familiar? We say it every December, only to fall short a couple of months later. How is 2017 going to be any different? Well, listen closely. Hear that sound? Feet against the pavement during a peaceful jog. The steamy sizzle of a stir fry cooking on the stove. Someone calling your name. It’s the sound of change…healthy change.

1. It improves confidence.
When self-esteem is high it’s easier to ask for that raise, you feel comfortable wearing that little black dress, and you know you’ll catch the attention of that important date.

confidence

2. Your body will be stronger. You’ll be able to carry that load of laundry up the stairs with breath leftover at the top, and feel like a champion when you can double up on the grocery bags.

strong

3. You’ll be happier. You’ll want to pay it forward at the coffee shop and you just might be caught singing in the shower.

happy

4. You’ll save money. Imagine the cash leftover when you stop buying those sodas, when you walk instead of drive, and when you leave the processed food where it belongs, on Isle 4.

5. You’ll set a good example for others. People will notice that zip in your step, and they’ll likely want to join you in that 5K.

6. You’ll increase your energy. You’ll wake up in the morning wanting to go to work. You’ll want to take that evening walk with the dog. And, you’ll be more apt to eat a healthy breakfast.

You can have it all when you commit.

So let’s do it, together. Rally28 is the weight-loss system with ingredients that are proven to work. You will understand where Rally28 got its name when you look in the mirror and see a new you, when you learn how to eat healthy again, when you discover how easy it is to keep exercise and sleep in your daily life.

Do you hear the rallying cry now?
