Ask the Expert: Frequently Asked Questions

At Genesis PURE, we have an expert team that is dedicated to answering your product and nutrition questions.

Here are the most popular questions from the previous week. You might find a topic related to a question you have.

Q: Is the whey protein in Rebuild whey isolate four-way concentrate? Are the L-leucine valine and L-lysine contributing to the protein count?

A: Yes, the whey protein is a whey isolate. Rebuild has both concentrate and isolate, but mostly concentrate. The ratio is 2:1 concentrate to isolate from whey. It is generally regarded as a high-quality protein due to its amino acid profile and fast absorption rate. Lysine and leucine are two of nine essential amino acids. Both these amino acids play vital roles in protein synthesis and can help promote the recovery and growth of muscle tissue. Rebuild has 20g of protein per serving.

Q: What is the recommended amount of Mila to be taken daily? Is Mila to be taken one or two times per day. If two times, what is the recommended amount?

A: You can take Mila up to three times a day, as it is a food. We recommend adding one scoop of Mila to your favorite beverages, cereal, yogurt, salads, cereals, smoothies, and recipes. Did you know that chia seeds can absorb up to 10 times their weight? This makes them great as thickeners in sauces, puddings, dips, and spreads. You can replace ¼ of the oil or 1 egg in your recipes. Simply add ½ scoop Mila to 3 tablespoons water and allow to sit for 15 minutes before using. As a versatile ingredient with a mild flavor, Mila can be incorporated into your favorite recipes. Mila pairs nicely with most our products; combine Mila with GPS Hydrate and Greens for an afternoon pick-me-up!

Q: My wife began using the Rally 28 products about a week ago.  She desires to have better overall health and help get a jump-start to losing weight.  She has had problems with sleep.  Are there any ingredients that will contribute to her sleep issues?  What would be a length of time that a person should drink a shake prior to wanting to fall asleep?

A: 360 Complete Shake does contain caffeine (about 35mg per serving), so we recommend enjoying it in the morning and/or afternoon. Caffeine affects everyone differently and can interfere with sleep. Metabolic ONE also contains caffeine from natural sources (88mg per 3 capsules). It too should be taken earlier in the day and you may choose to reduce the number of capsules from 3 to 2 capsules each time used.  If sleeplessness persists, you can drop it down to 1 capsule twice daily.  This dose is not ideal, but some is better than none for boosting metabolism and energy.  Our new CalciuMK+ is a liquid, non-dairy formula that offers Rapid Delivery of calcium, magnesium and vitamin K2, PLUS vitamins D, A, C and E and essential trace minerals. The magnesium helps relax muscles for restful sleep. Aromatically, lavender essential oil has been shown to relieve tension and support well-being, especially at night.  Additionally, topical application of Lavender essential oil with a carrier oil may promote relaxation. Our Ease8 essential oil blend contains Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Cypress, Wintergreen, Lavender, Blue tansy, Blue Chamomile and Helichrysum and is a relaxing aroma.

Here are the most popular questions from the last week. You might find a topic related to a question you have.

Q: Are  you diluting the effectiveness of Acai when you ultra pasteurize it? Can I say it’s all natural if we are altering it after it’s picked and before it’s bottled? A: Although the levels of certain nutrients in Acai may decrease with pasteurization, the final product retains most of the original nutritional value. After you open pasteurized juice, it may lose nutritional value due to exposure to light and the air. To optimize nutritional value, store pasteurized juice in the container in which it came. Acai is still all natural as we are not altering or adding any ingredients.

Q: The previous Shake formula/ingredients showed a Greens blend, a Superfruit blend, and some others. Were those ingredients taken out of the 360 Complete Shake?   A: We did reformulate our meal replacement shake last year to better align with our HealthTrim line of products. We still have a superfruit blend with a vegetable that is listed with the other ingredients. The 360 Complete Shake contains papaya fruit powder, carrot powder, goji berry extract, noni extract, noni extract, mangosteen extract, acai extract, pomegranate extract, tart cherry powder, and raspberry powder.
As a meal replacement shake, it incorporates whey and pea proteins, as well as a unique potato extract and fiber blend that helps the body control feelings of hunger. 360 Complete Shake offers a combination of vitamins and minerals, protein, carbohydrates, fat and fiber. Each 160-calorie serving is ideal for those looking to replace a meal or avoid overeating between meals. The secret is in a protein extract and fiber blend. Learn more at http://www.genesispure.com/products/display/2163/117/360-complete-shake-br-vanilla-bean.

We recommend adding a scoop of Greens to your shake to benefit from those phytonutrients. Or combine it with your favorite fruit juice, smoothie or other Genesis PURE product. Greens is made up of four Proprietary PURE Blends that utilize some of the most beneficial superfoods, botanicals, superfruits, and mushrooms available, giving your life the edge it craves and deserves. In this way, your body is benefiting from the whole fruit and vegetable.

Chew on this, and cut calories at the same time

chew_on_this_0217Wouldn’t it be great if you could lose weight while you ate? We are not talking about eating a granola bar while walking on the treadmill. Certain foods actually have thermogenic properties meaning they raise your core body temperature and thus boost your metabolism.

The following foods have actually been shown to boost your body’s calorie-burning potential, so you can burn calories while you chew and digest.

Fat-burning foods:

Whole Grains: Did you know your body is burning calories when you digest food?  In one study, it was shown that a meal containing whole grains required twice as many calories to digest as a meal containing refined grains (137 vs. 73 calories).1 Whole grains have other health benefits as well, including a higher protein and fiber content than refined grains.

Lean or Plant-Based Protein: Moderately increasing protein intake may modestly increase metabolic rate. A healthy protein intake may provide additional weight management benefits by increasing fullness following a meal and promoting retention of lean muscle mass.2

Hot Peppers (capsicum): Peppers may modestly increase both metabolism and fat burning. The benefits of red peppers have been seen in studies using pills as well as whole foods. Regardless of how you ingest it, capsicum may aid your weight management efforts.3   Genesis PURE products such as Daily Build, Metabolic ONE and HealthTrim® Cleanse contain ingredients from peppers. Greens contains organic cayenne fruit and PURE Café has black pepper extract.

Oolong, Green, or White Tea: Oolong, green, and white teas are rich in polyphenols (plant chemicals) and also contain caffeine. The metabolism- and energy-boosting effects of consuming polyphenols and caffeine have been shown in numerous studies.4

Coconut Oil: While coconut oil has not specifically been found to increase metabolic rate or promote fat burning, it may be a beneficial food to add to your weight management program. In recent studies, individuals consuming coconut oil as part of a weight management program experienced greater reductions in waist circumference than those who did not consume the coconut oil5, 6 in addition to helping support weight management, preliminary evidence suggests that coconut oil may also help promote blood cholesterol profiles at normal levels.7

Genesis PURE HealthTrim® line of products:

In addition to the foods above, Genesis PURE’s HealthTrim® line of products can help you reach your own unique weight-management goals with targeted nutrition. The following products are all part of Rally28, Genesis PURE’s Complete Nutrition Weight Loss System.

  • 360 Complete Shake contains a proprietary Craving-Control technology and fat-burning ingredients. A unique potato extract helps promote healthy weight loss while Protease Inhibitor, derived from potato, helps to reduce appetite.*
  • Green Coffee Bean contains chlorogenic acids which offer beneficial polyphenol antioxidants, an amount comparable to some products used in weight management research. Some studies show that the chlorogenic acid in green coffee beans affects how the body handles blood sugar and metabolism.*
  • PURE Café is a slimming coffee that suppresses appetite so you can limit the amount of calories you are eating throughout the day.*
  • Metabolic ONE contains green tea and cayenne pepper and caffeine, ingredients that help supercharge a sluggish metabolism.*

Devise your fat-burning meal today, and be sure to combine it with plenty of exercise and adequate sleep.

Please consult a healthcare professional before beginning any diet plan, supplement regime or workout plan.

Q: Which products in any of the various lines contain broccoli?  I have an interested party who is looking for supplements but has a reaction to broccoli.  A: None of the Genesis PURE™ products contain broccoli.

Q: Does Greens contain wheat? A: Greens contains organic wheat grass as part of the PURE Organic Superfood Blend. The wheat grass does not contain gluten, if that may be a concern. Healthy eating during the holidays

holiday-nutrition-survival-guide-1215 It’s that time of year for holiday festivities, and that comes with a lot of extra food, sugar and alcohol, and a lot less time for exercise.  It can be challenging to maintain your weight and your health. But just because you’ve always eaten sugar-laden and fatty foods doesn’t mean you have to veer off that path to Whole Health. You can find alternative ways to make your old favorites.

While avoiding weight gain during the holidays may seem as believable as Santa’s ability to visit every home on Christmas Eve, I am confident you can avoid packing on the pounds this December with the help of these tips.

Tip #1 – Eat a healthy snack BEFORE going to a party.  You will help provide your body with nutrition and you’ll fill yourself up a little, so that you don’t eat as much of the unhealthy foods. Genesis PURE™ Greens, combined with Mila, GPS Hydration and water is a great-tasting beverage that provides nutrition and fiber to help fill you up.

Tip #2 – Drink a full glass of water before each alcoholic beverage you have.  Alcoholic beverages are high in sugar, calories and, of course, alcohol.  They are also very dehydrating.  By drinking a glass of water before each alcoholic beverage, you’re hydrating your body, helping your kidneys flush toxins, and filling yourself up, so you don’t desire as much alcohol.

Tip #3 – Eat small portions.  For example, instead of a big, heaping spoon-full of mashed potatoes AND yams AND stuffing AND a roll, take just a tablespoon full of each and a half of a roll.  If you’re still hungry later, you can always go back for more.

Tip #4 – Use the same principle as Tip #3 for your sweets.  Take just a small portion of several things you’d like to sample.  Don’t be afraid to cut that pie piece into thirds or that fudge in half.  While your brain might think “that’s not enough!” it’ll thank you later when you don’t feel like you’re going to explode.

Tip #5 – Be sure to do a calorie-burning exercise EVERY DAY!  Run up and down the stairs in your house a few times before work.  Do some crunches or push-ups. Jump up and down on the trampoline for five minutes.  You don’t have to spend an hour at the gym; you just want to get your heart pumping, your blood moving and oxygen flowing. This helps boost your metabolism and can help you burn off the extra calories you consume.

Additional Tips:

  1. Eat breakfast. Don’t try to “save” your calories for your big meal. Not only are you likely to overindulge when you do eat, but your body may be more apt to store your food as fat.  Try Genesis PURE’s 360 Complete Shake, an effective meal replacement offering a combination of vitamins and minerals, protein, carbohydrates, fat, and fiber. It’s ideal for those looking to avoid overeating between meals.
  2. Use a smaller plate. The less food you can put on your plate, the less you will eat.
  3. Eat a salad with your meal. Salad is roughage and helps move the other food through your digestive system.  Be sure to nix the extra toppings, and go with a simple oil-and-vinegar dressing.
  4. Bring your own dish. Rather than trying to decipher what’s in each dish, or being fearful of missing out, bring some healthier options. This is an especially helpful tip for those with food allergies and/or sensitivities. Find some delicious recipes using Genesis PURE products: http://www.genesispure.com/recipes.
  5. Slow down. Time and time again, studies have shown that it takes about 20 minutes for our brains to register it’s full. So slow down, chew your food well, and take time to chat with family or friends before deciding whether you want another slice of pie.
  6. Choose sweets than contain protein. Protein helps offset the sugar in sweets and slows the glucose conversion. For example, grab a handful of nuts with your pie. Make some Almond Butter Mila Cookies or Chocolate Coconut Mila Balls. Find the recipes here: http://www.genesispure.com/recipes.
  7. Eat the dark meat of the turkey instead of the white. Dark meat contains more nutrients and healthier fats, helping you feel full.
  8. Have more yams and less mashed potatoes. Yams or sweet potatoes are considered complex carbohydrates and have a lower glycemic index than mashed.  Enjoy the natural sweetness of baked yams and sweet potatoes instead of candied yams topped with marshmallows, which are full of added sugar.
  9. Save the fruit salad for later. Fruit may be more beneficial and less taxing on the digestive system, if it is eaten alone.  Have this as part of your dessert versus with your meal.
  10. Choose clear, distilled liquor over beer, wine or sugary cocktails. Not only does sugar speed up the absorption of alcohol into the blood stream; but it also contains more calories.  For example, a vodka and tonic would be lower in calories than a rum and coke.
  11. Substitute healthier ingredients for less-healthful ones. For instance, instead of oil use applesauce. Mila (chia seed) can replace eggs in recipes.

If you do choose to indulge at events, choose wisely and make sure you stick with a healthy diet and workout regimen throughout the season to keep those unwanted pounds at bay.  Genesis PURE’s Rally28 weight-loss system can help you stay on track while you develop healthier habits for real, lasting results. Discover how this revolutionary system is making a difference in the lives of so many.

Most importantly, don’t lose sight of what the holiday truly represents. Enjoy the time with your family and friends. Don’t just linger around the appetizers, bar, or dinner table. Reminisce with old friends and make some new ones. Pause and remember why you are celebrating. This is a time to celebrate and spread holiday cheer!

Cheers to a Whole Health holiday season!

You asked, we answered

ATEoftheWeek_0216 Every week, we gather questions that were asked on our Ask the Expert forum to share with our readers. Do you have a product or nutrition question? Simply visit http://www.genesispure.com/forms/asktheexpert

Q:  Is there a better time during the day to ingest certain products? We tend to follow the guidelines on the products while taking them. The ones that we take on a regular basis are the Daily Build, Coral Calcium, Organic Sulfur, Metabolic ONE, Greens, GoYin and Mila.

A: Some of the minerals in Daily Build may compete for absorption with minerals in Coral Calcium, so for optimal mineral absorption, it would be ideal to take each at a separate meal. Some take Coral Calcium before bed to help them sleep better. When you take Daily Build, be sure to take it with food.  Some of the nutrients in this product are fat soluble and will be best absorbed with fat typically found in a meal.  Mila and Greens can be taken with the other products. Organic Sulfur works best if taken with meals, and can be taken with the other products. Some recommend it on an empty stomach, but none of the clinical studies demonstrating its benefit required it to consumed in this manner. Metabolic ONE should be taken 15 to 20 minutes before breakfast and lunch only, and can be taken with the other products. The natural actives could make it difficult to fall asleep at night, if taken too late during the day.  And, GoYin works best if taken alone, on an empty stomach in the morning and afternoon. We recommend following the usage guidelines on each product label.

Q: Is there a product/products that help with cholesterol?

A: There are several easy-to-use governmental sites that can educate you on cholesterol. While making your meals, you might want to add in our Mila product, which contains heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, ALA, or “alpha-linolenic acid”.  Omega-3 fatty acids help promote a healthy cardiovascular system.  This excellent product also contains fiber, including soluble fiber, which when used as part of a healthy diet, can help you maintain healthy cholesterol levels.  For additional assistance with your healthcare needs, please consult your doctor. Please remember, Genesis PURE products do not treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Q: How long are the superfruit juices good while kept in the refrigerator after opening?

A: Our Superfruits, once opened, should be refrigerated and consumed within 30 days. Please see our FAQ regarding expired products at: http://www.genesispure.com/faq#expiration_date.
