At Genesis PURE, we have an expert team that is dedicated to answering your product and nutrition questions.

Here are the most popular questions from the previous week. You might find a topic related to a question you have.

Q: Looking at the superfruits, why don’t you list the nutruitional values of sugars and carbohydrates?

A: The most recent labels of our Acai, Fusion, and Goji superfruit juices have this information. You can check our web site for their full nutritional content. For your convenience, we provide the following: Acai – Total Carbohydrates 1g, Sugars 1g; Fusion – Total Carbohydrates 3g, Sugars 2g; Goji – Total Carbohydrates 4g, Sugars 4g. These data for Goji were calculated based on theoretical input. After analytical testing of the finished product, the label will be updated to 3g Total Carbohydrates and 2g of Sugars. We are also currently updating our Noni and Mangosteen superfruit juices and the following has been printed on the newest product labels: Mangosteen – Total Carbohydrate 2g, Sugars 1.5g, Noni – Total Carbohydrates 1.5g, Sugars 0.5g. Keep in mind that one serving of the superfruit juices is 1 ounce or 30 mL, which is 1/8th of 1 cup.

Q: My mom has Alzheimers and I am interested in supplements for her as well as for myself. I realize that I need to be proactive and take better care of myself now.

A: First, speak with her doctor for specific recommendations on which Genesis PURE products to use to support overall health without interfering with her current treatment. Our bodies are complex systems that require a correct balance of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in order to function properly. Some doctors may also do phone consultations if there is not one in your area. As for your own needs, visit our web site at www.genesispure.com to familiarize yourself with our many products that help with everything from weight management and performance to skincare and seasonal support.

Q: In the Coral Calcium supplement, is is calcium citrate or calcium carbonate?

A: Our calcium product is coral calcium which is harvested from fossilized coral beds or above-sea mines (no living reefs are disturbed by the process). Coral calcium contains essential trace minerals, including magnesium. Coral calcium is a form of calcium carbonate which is found in many organic sources such as bone meal, shells and dolomite. Calcium citrate is the naturally occurring calcium salt of citric acid. It is the product of the fermentation process used to produce citric acid.

Q: Do you have NDC or UPC numbers for your products?

A: No, we do not have UPC or NDC numbers on our products. UPC are usually bar code numbers and NDC are associated with OTC products (e.g. Aspirin, etc.). Certain products, like Daily Build, are listed in the Physician’s Desk Reference. http://www.genesispure.com/Products-in-PDR

Eat more fiber

Has your doctor ever told you to eat more fiber? Maybe you wanted to stay “regular”. Dietary fiber not only help to relieve constipation, it also helps the body maintain a healthy weight and lowers the risk for diabetes and heart disease.1  Children and adults need at least 20 to 30 grams of fiber (e.g. 2 ½ cup of blueberries) per day for good health, but most Americans get only about 15 grams a day. 2

There are actually two kinds of dietary fiber — soluble and insoluble. The body needs both of these to support health, and there are many delicious fiber-rich foods that make it easy to get your daily servings. So what is the difference between these two kinds?

Soluble fiber

Soluble fiber is soft and sticky. Soluble fiber forms a gel-like substance inside the digestive system when combined with water. It helps soften stool so it can easily slide through the gastrointestinal tract. It also binds to cholesterol and sugar, preventing or slowing their absorption into the blood.

Soluble fiber creates a feeling of fullness, which helps with weight management. A study in Annals of Internal Medicine suggested that aiming to eat 30 grams of fiber each day can help with weight management. 3 Soluble fiber is also known to help regulate blood sugar levels, and protect against heart disease by lowering blood cholesterol. 3

Soluble fiber comes from oats, peas, white beans, avocado, black beans, kidney beans, garbanzo beans, apples, citrus fruits, carrots, raspberries, blueberries, barley and psyllium.

Insoluble fiber

This is the type people think of as “bulk” or “roughage.” It’s the tough matter found in whole grains, nuts, and fruits and veggies that doesn’t dissolve in water. Insoluble fiber is not digestible or readily absorbed into the bloodstream. It adds bulk to waste in the digestive system, which helps prevent constipation.

Insoluble fiber comes from corn, green beans, pears, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta and bread, brown rice, nuts, celery, sprouts, onions, cucumbers, leafy greens, cauliflower, broccoli, and potatoes.

Our bodies need both soluble and insoluble fiber

On product labels, you’ll often see “Total Dietary Fiber” listed, for good reason. Both kinds are important for your health. A study in The Journals of Gerontology reported that eating the right amount of fiber…can help us avoid disease and disability into old age. The study found that those who had the highest intake of fiber or total fiber actually had an almost 80% greater likelihood of living a long and healthy life over a 10-year follow-up.4

Did you know that Genesis PURE 360 Complete Shake meal replacement has 11 grams of fiber per serving? It’s actually one of the best sources of fiber that you can take on a regular basis. And, Genesis PURE Mila contains both soluble and insoluble fiber.

Be sure to drink plenty of water

Fiber depends on water to do its job. Soluble fiber absorbs it, while insoluble fiber traps water adding bulk and moisture to waste to prevent constipation. Be sure to balance your fiber intake with plenty of water. The Institute of Medicine suggests about 9 cups daily for women and 13 cups every day for men.5

Ask the Expert: frequently asked questions

ATEoftheWeek_0216At Genesis PURE, we have an expert team that is dedicated to answering your product and nutrition questions.

Here are the most popular questions from the last week. You might find a topic related to a question you have.

Q: Are  you diluting the effectiveness of Acai when you ultra pasteurize it? Can I say it’s all natural if we are altering it after it’s picked and before it’s bottled? A: Although the levels of certain nutrients in Acai may decrease with pasteurization, the final product retains most of the original nutritional value. After you open pasteurized juice, it may lose nutritional value due to exposure to light and the air. To optimize nutritional value, store pasteurized juice in the container in which it came. Acai is still all natural as we are not altering or adding any ingredients.

Q: The previous Shake formula/ingredients showed a Greens blend, a Superfruit blend, and some others. Were those ingredients taken out of the 360 Complete Shake?   A: We did reformulate our meal replacement shake last year to better align with our HealthTrim line of products. We still have a superfruit blend with a vegetable that is listed with the other ingredients. The 360 Complete Shake contains papaya fruit powder, carrot powder, goji berry extract, noni extract, noni extract, mangosteen extract, acai extract, pomegranate extract, tart cherry powder, and raspberry powder.
As a meal replacement shake, it incorporates whey and pea proteins, as well as a unique potato extract and fiber blend that helps the body control feelings of hunger. 360 Complete Shake offers a combination of vitamins and minerals, protein, carbohydrates, fat and fiber. Each 160-calorie serving is ideal for those looking to replace a meal or avoid overeating between meals. The secret is in a protein extract and fiber blend. Learn more at http://www.genesispure.com/products/display/2163/117/360-complete-shake-br-vanilla-bean.

We recommend adding a scoop of Greens to your shake to benefit from those phytonutrients. Or combine it with your favorite fruit juice, smoothie or other Genesis PURE product. Greens is made up of four Proprietary PURE Blends that utilize some of the most beneficial superfoods, botanicals, superfruits, and mushrooms available, giving your life the edge it craves and deserves. In this way, your body is benefiting from the whole fruit and vegetable.

Ask the Expert: frequently asked questions

ATEoftheWeek_0216At Genesis PURE, we have an expert team that is dedicated to answering your product and nutrition questions.

Here are the most popular questions from the last week. You might find a topic related to a question you have.

Q: Can you help explain why we have goji juice and wheat grass in our product line? A: Simple sugars as well as the vitamins and minerals in wheat grass can be absorbed by the body and is a natural source of vitamins A, E, C, K and B6 as well as calcium, magnesium, selenium and iron. The fiber is not fully digestible, but this is true of most fruits and vegetables. Goji, known as the “happy berry,” may promote feelings of well-being. It has high nutrient content, carotenoids, essential fatty acids and powerful antioxidant properties. It also is a source of vitamin C and polysaccharides to support healthy functions of the immune system.

Q: My mother in law is doing Rally28. She has high blood pressure. Is there anything she should stray from? She is also constipated. A: We recommend your mother-in-law consult her physician before starting any weight-loss program. Additionally, the recommended use for Metabolic ONE states: Do not take this product if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, or are taking any prescription medication, especially monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). The constipation could be caused by her body adapting to the added amount of fiber she is getting from the program. One serving of 360 Complete Shake provides 11g of fiber. If she is using two shakes a day, she is getting 22g of fiber, which is 88% the DV for fiber. Most people do not consume enough fiber in their diet, so when they add more, constipation can occur. It is important to drink sufficient water to help move fiber through the digestive tract. She may want to reduce the amount of shake she is using and give her body time to adapt to the added amount of daily fiber. Another issue may be what we call transitory adaptation. As an individual makes significant changes to their diet, some people need time to adapt to these changes. Some people may experience some GI disturbances as a result of the changes until the body learns to adapt.  Generally, like increased fiber intake, we recommend cutting back amounts used and then increasing them back to normal dosages as tolerated. However, in the case of your mother-in-law, we highly recommend she consults with her physician before using the Genesis PURE supplement products.

Q: What metals does C’ENCIA pull out of the skin? A: C’ENCIA is intended to intensely moisturize the skin and nourish the skin with beneficial ingredients to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Products intended to pull impurities out of the skin are usually face masks and unfortunately C’ENCIA does not have this effect.  If Genesis PURE had a face mask product, it would not be capable of pulling out “metals” from the skin.  This is a common misconception sometimes touted by other companies.  A face mask can draw out of the skin dirt, sebum, dead skins cells and other accumulated particulates like cigarette smoke, pollution fumes, and pollen.  Unfortunately, C’ENCIA does not have the capability to pull impurities or metals out of the skin.
