Have a healthy Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means there will be a lot of scary sugar. From parties to trick-or-treating to grocery stores, candy can be found everywhere, and it may challenge you on your path to Whole Health.

As much as I love M&Ms and candy corn, I know they’re not healthy. The bakery aisle usually tries to compete with their creatively decorated cakes, cookies and cupcakes. Everywhere we turn, there seems to be items just leaping off the shelf and into our grocery cart!

Yes, we buy candy for the trick-or-treaters, yet we always find ourselves mindlessly munching on these tempting treats. If you have children, it’s hard not having sweets in the house. For others, it’s about moderation and keeping it out of sight. For myself, there are parties, festivals and other events that just beg for the attention.

Moderation is key

Halloween is a festive holiday and candy is to be enjoyed, but due to the rising rates of obesity and disease and a lack of vital nutrients in the diet, it’s important to watch your intake of sugar. The American Heart Association states that children and teens (ages 2-18) should limit their added sugars to less than 6 teaspoons per day and no more than 8 fl. oz. of sugary beverages per week. The average American consumes about 355 calories of added sugar a day, or the equivalent of 22.2 teaspoons. That is about triple the recommended amount!1

Don’t stray from your healthy habits

Enjoy Halloween with your children, but carefully plan ahead of time. Teach sensible eating so your kids can make wise decisions when faced with an overwhelming amount of temptations. Also make sure your child gets a well-balanced meal before trick-or-treating; it’ll reduce the urge to snack afterwards. Don’t be afraid to offer healthy trick-or-treating alternatives!

Healthier and non-food options for trick-or-treating:

  • Organic juice boxes
  • Natural fruit leather
  • Bouncy balls
  • Hair bows
  • 100-calorie pack snacks
  • Granola bars
  • Card games
  • Pencils
  • Bubbles
  • Temporary tattoos
  • Plastic vampire fangs
  • Toy cars
  • Mini packs: Play-Doh, crayon packs, erasers, coloring books

Inspection

I used to always get frustrated when my parents made me wait to eat the candy I collected. They insisted on inspecting it all first. Rule of thumb — if the wrapper looks suspicious, tampered with or you’re not familiar with the brand, toss it! Another wise rule is to let your child choose a few pieces of candy to eat on Halloween night and then a few pieces each day after that.

Restriction can often backfire, leading to an obsession with candy. Use this time as an opportunity to teach about healthy, nutritious eating. Combine a miniature snack bar with a piece of fruit and then teach the benefits of the fruit while encouraging healthy eating habits.

Be a healthy host

Finally, Halloween isn’t just for kids. Adults like to attend and host costume parties for friends and families. If hosting, incorporate other fall favorites, such as pumpkin, squash, apples and other fresh produce. Check PURE’s Pinterest page for some delicious, healthy food choices that all your guests will love!

The pioneering spirit of PURE IBOs

It’s Columbus Day, when we celebrate Christopher Columbus’ traditional discovery of the Americas on behalf of the crowns of Castile and Aragon, crowns that would later form the nucleus of modern-day Spain. Today we honor a pioneer who was not afraid to explore new opportunities.

Columbus spent years lobbying Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon, asking them to fund an expedition to establish a western sea passage to the East Indies. At that time, the spice trade that travelled the Silk Road from India and China to Europe had been cut off by the Ottoman Empire, starving Europe of food flavorings such as ginger, pepper and turmeric. By the way, these are spices used in products by PURE today. A sea route around the southern tip of Africa was still some years off. Thus, there was a great demand for spices. Tremendous wealth would be made by anyone who could find and deliver supplies.

We all know that Columbus did not set out to find the Americas. He wished to approach the East Indies from an easterly direction. However, this would mean crossing the Western Ocean, an ocean that was estimated to be between 2,000 and 12,000 miles wide. Columbus mistakenly believed in the lesser distance so that when, after five weeks of sailing, his expedition reached an island in the Bahamas, he assumed he had sailed around the far side of Planet Earth and arrived in India. He and his 80-plus men assumed the natives were “Indians” and, sadly, that name stuck.

While prospective PURE Independent Business Owners do not risk losing the lives of themselves and 80 men on the ocean, they are still all business pioneers. The biggest difference is that they are not pushing out into the unknown: PURE has been in business for over ten years and the products have stood the test of time, and are trusted by consumers here in the Americas and around the world.

Have a look at livepure.com and, when you decide to take the plunge with our business opportunity, it will be plain sailing from then on, with PURE.

IBO, Kristi Baker sees real changes with Team28

Here at PURE, people are seeing great results with the Team28! Participating in Team28 involves committing to a 28-day detox plan. Carefully selected products by PURE help detoxification by nutritionally supporting the body’s natural health-maintaining processes.*

One of our participants was Independent Business Owner (IBO) Kristi Baker. Kristi joined PURE in July 2018 with the Be Fulfilled Pack. She had been exercising consistently but not seeing a lot of change. When she started taking products by PURE, she experienced more energy and felt healthier. Then she learned about Team28 and decided to make some real changes. She was interested in cleansing out the junk and resetting her metabolism.

In addition to being an IBO, Kristi works as a chef for a large church in Katy, Texas. She enjoys cooking for her two young boys and husband and giving food as gifts — especially sweets.

“I started my detox journey in August,” Kristi said. “I followed the plan as closely as I could, despite life’s daily challenges. I had tried unsuccessfully for years to reduce my weight.  After 28 days, I was down 7 pounds from 145!  I was more lean and muscular.

As a former Disney® employee, Kristi is inspired by quotes from Walt Disney, particularly ‘All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them,’ and ‘Keep moving forward.’ She says, “I like to encourage people to just get started. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to try.”  Kristi believes in keeping her eyes on the goal, celebrating the little accomplishments along the way and not getting caught up in the final product. She says, “Instead, try to be a better you than you were yesterday. Small steps, when maintained, lead to BIG changes!”

Join Kristi by participating in Team28 and get your health back on track. We are continuing the program through the end of the year, as people are seeing incredible results.

Submit your before and after photos here. We’ll send you a PURE headband and Team28 logo!

Reflecting on 9/11

Today, on the seventeenth anniversary of 9/11, Patriot Day, we remember the tragic events, loss of life and the profound effect on people’s lives.  We remember the 2,977 people whose lives were stolen, their families, and the many, many others who were injured, or who suffered long-term health effects due to the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania.

For me, this event was personal as it happened in my country and in the city in which I was born. I believe that 9/11 changed us all.

Not only do we mourn our losses, but we celebrate our fortitude and our passion for positive change. As Americans, we have a strong resolve not to yield when adversity strikes. We unite as a nation not to be cowed, but instead to push forward. Patriot Day reminds me of the great dedication we have as a community, and a country.

The American people are famous for the unity embodied by our flag and in our love of country. We are blessed that in adversity, we come together in strength.

Today, we shall spend a moment in silence together to remember those who lost their lives, and to offer gratitude for those who work to make our lives better.

Ryan Takao takes on the Team28 Challenge

Here at PURE, we’ve been running the Team28 Challenge with fantastic results. We have over one-hundred participants, with the majority already enthusing and telling us about their great gains in energy levels and losses of both weight and belly fat, along with changes in body composition.

The Team28 Challenge involves committing to a 28-day Detox Plan. Carefully selected products by PURE help detoxification by nutritionally supporting the body’s natural health-maintaining processes.

One of the earliest participants this summer was Independent Business Owner (IBO), Ryan Takao. Over the last few years, he’d been seeing worsening results in his annual health screening blood-work and so he participated in the Team28 Challenge to improve his health. He told us, “I did it because of my triglycerides and cholesterol levels and I didn’t want to medicate.” And, wow, has he got great results: his triglycerides are down from 323 to 99 and his cholesterol measurement was 224 and is now down to 124 – with improved HDL and LDL levels. As Ryan puts it, “I have gotten my health back naturally.”

But there is more to this story. When we spoke with Ryan, he told us that his father is a physician. “My dad’s numbers had been going in the wrong direction for several years, despite being on medications. When he saw the results I was getting, he was mad at me for telling so many people about the 28-day Detox Plan, but not him. He’s now received his own Detox Kit and has started the Challenge.”

It’s not a surprise that Ryan’s dad wanted to join in: have a look at Ryan’s before and after photos. They speak volumes. The Team28 Challenge is continuing to run throughout September. We’ll be featuring other participants on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/livepureglobal/

And if you’d like to join Ryan in the 28-Day Challenge, click on this link.

Labor Day Is Here

Here at PURE, we’re looking forward to the long weekend and to spending quality time with our friends and loved ones. It’s the unofficial end of summer and for many of us it’s one of our last opportunities to light up the grill and enjoy what’s left of the warm weather while we can.

We’re also reflecting on the meaning and history of Labor Day: it’s not Easter, the most important date in the Christian calendar; nor is it Christmas, arguably the biggest holiday event of the year. It does not involve the signing of our most cherished declaration or giving thanks for a good harvest. According to most sources, Labor Day is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers, workers who – through hard effort – have contributed to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country.

In 1887, Oregon became the first state to make Labor Day an official holiday, and it became a recognized holiday across the U.S. only seven years later. This was at odds with the “labour day” celebrated then and now in other countries. May 1 or May Day was perceived to be a day of action, when blue-collar workers might demonstrate in support of shorter work days or for the redistribution of wealth from capitalists to workers. Here in the U.S. however, many people petitioned for a day off, a family day, when people could relax and enjoy the fruits of their efforts. Efforts that have succeeded in building the largest and most successful economy in the world.

This spirit of achievement, of putting in the effort to build successful businesses, is exemplified every day by our PURE Independent Business Owners. They work hard and smart, and recognize that success is earned.

So this weekend, get out the grill, go to the park, go visit with family or hang out with friends. And celebrate the American work ethic and the fruits of our labor.

Happy Labor Day from all of us at PURE.
