Labor Day Is Here

Here at PURE, we’re looking forward to the long weekend and to spending quality time with our friends and loved ones. It’s the unofficial end of summer and for many of us it’s one of our last opportunities to light up the grill and enjoy what’s left of the warm weather while we can.

We’re also reflecting on the meaning and history of Labor Day: it’s not Easter, the most important date in the Christian calendar; nor is it Christmas, arguably the biggest holiday event of the year. It does not involve the signing of our most cherished declaration or giving thanks for a good harvest. According to most sources, Labor Day is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers, workers who – through hard effort – have contributed to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country.

In 1887, Oregon became the first state to make Labor Day an official holiday, and it became a recognized holiday across the U.S. only seven years later. This was at odds with the “labour day” celebrated then and now in other countries. May 1 or May Day was perceived to be a day of action, when blue-collar workers might demonstrate in support of shorter work days or for the redistribution of wealth from capitalists to workers. Here in the U.S. however, many people petitioned for a day off, a family day, when people could relax and enjoy the fruits of their efforts. Efforts that have succeeded in building the largest and most successful economy in the world.

This spirit of achievement, of putting in the effort to build successful businesses, is exemplified every day by our PURE Independent Business Owners. They work hard and smart, and recognize that success is earned.

So this weekend, get out the grill, go to the park, go visit with family or hang out with friends. And celebrate the American work ethic and the fruits of our labor.

Happy Labor Day from all of us at PURE.

Spice up your cleansing regimen

Herbs are truly a gift from nature. Not only do they add wonderful flavor to dishes, but they offer many health benefits, including the possibility of cleansing the body of harmful toxins.

Spices like turmeric, oregano, ginger, parsley and black and white pepper may have cleansing properties. Many of them can be grown in your backyard or indoor gardens. Consider coupling these herbs with your PURE 7-Day or 28-Day Detox meals to take advantage of their cleansing benefits.

Turmeric is a plant that comes from the ginger family. It contains a phytochemical substance called curcumin which is yellow in color, and is found in a lot of foods from curry to mustard. Studies suggest that curcumin’s antioxidant properties can support overall health. Daily Build has a Bio-Protection Blend that contains turmeric extract.

Add turmeric to soups, rice dishes, vegetables and chicken dishes. Another nice treat is to add 2 teaspoons turmeric, 1 teaspoon ground ginger and a few drops of stevia sweetener to warmed almond milk.

Oregano is widely used in Italian food. A study in the Journal of Nutrition found that oregano, among other dried culinary herbs, contained very high concentrations of antioxidants. The authors stated that in a normal diet, the intake of herbs may contribute significantly to the total intake of plant antioxidants, and can be an even better source of dietary antioxidants than many other food groups such as fruits, berries, cereals and vegetables.1

Oregano adds flavor to broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms and potatoes. It tastes great sprinkled on chicken dishes as well.

Ginger is considered by many to be one of the best detoxifying herbs. It has been used medicinally for thousands of years for its antioxidant benefits. In fact, it is used in many cleansing programs. The beneficial portion of the plant is referred to as the rhizome, which is the thick underground stem. Metabolic ONE and HealthTrim® Cleanse contain ginger.

To benefit from this herb, try infusing finely chopped ginger root in boiling water. Add lemon juice and stevia sweetener for a refreshing drink, hot or cold.

Parsley’s unique taste comes from a phytochemical called polyacetylene. This herb contains vitamin C, chlorophyll, beta-carotene, vitamin K and folate, which may be used by the body for detoxification. Finely chop parsley and add it to a salad or use it in pesto. Parsley can also be added to juices or smoothies.

Black and white pepper are great flavor agents. They are made from the Piper-nigrum plant. Black pepper is ground from dried, whole, unripe fruit. White pepper is ground from dried, ripe fruit that has had the outer layer removed. Black pepper may help digestion. Black pepper increases your hydrochloric acid secretion, which is necessary for the digestion of proteins and other foods within the stomach.2  MelaTrim, Daily Build, PURE Café, Green Coffee Bean and Metabolic ONE all contain black pepper extract.

How “Active” are you?

You may be physically fit, but how fiscally fit are you? In other words, are you “active” in your business with PURE? We know that exercising is important for our overall health, but being an “active” Independent Business Owner (IBO) is just as important, if you want your business to grow.

What does it mean to be “active”?

Direct selling, like many industries, has its own vocabulary to describe its people, services and general operating procedures. Many direct selling companies use the terms “active” and “inactive” to describe the status of their independent distributors, and these terms may vary from company to company.

With your business with PURE, you are either an “active” or “inactive” IBO. “Active” IBOs personally promote sales through the generation of new customers and through servicing their existing customers. Having an “active” status means an IBO has 100PV* or more (either through personal product purchases or product sales to Retail and Preferred Customers or any combination thereof) every 28 days.

If an IBO temporarily or permanently stops working their business and does not have 100PV or more every 28 days, they are considered “inactive.”

At PURE, you must be an “active” IBO in order to become eligible to receive the PURE Enrollment Bonus, to qualify for the PURE Rank Bonus and to qualify for bonuses within the PURE Compensation Plan and other limited-time incentives.

For more information on the rewards, bonuses and incentives available to active IBOs, visit livepure.com/rewards.

*PV (Product Volume) is the amount of volume assigned to each product.

The “sunshine vitamin” may be good for the brain

Remember the movie Nim’s Island (2008)? Actress Jodie Foster plays the part of an agoraphobic, someone who is afraid of the outdoors. She eventually overcomes the disorder when she is called to fulfill a personal mission. While watching the movie, I couldn’t help but wonder if she was getting enough vitamin D.

Why, you might ask? Vitamin D is called the “sunshine vitamin” for good reason. When the skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays, it triggers the body to make vitamin D. We cannot make this vitamin without sunshine, even though our bodies require it. Jodie Foster’s character likely received her vitamin D from dietary supplements, one can only hope, since it’s such a beneficial vitamin. She could have received sufficient amounts from foods like salmon, eggs and milk, which are all high in vitamin D.

Vitamin D:

  • helps promote healthy bones as it aids in the absorption of calcium
  • regulates how much calcium stays in our blood, contributing to heart health
  • helps strengthen your immune system and regulate cell growth

Mind your Ks, Ps and Ds

Apparently, the older you are, the less vitamin D your skin absorbs. And yet, as you age, the more you need vitamin D to keep your mind sharp.

Researchers at the University of California-Davis conducted a study and found that participants, average age of 75, who had deficient (less than 12 ng/mL) or insufficient (12-20 ng/mL) vitamin D levels, experienced a decline in short-term memory and executive functions (reasoning, problem solving and planning). Their average levels of vitamin D were 19 ng/mL. Consensus among physicians is that levels should be at least 35 ng/mL.

The study also found that participants’ cognition was declining about two and a half times faster than those who had adequate vitamin D (20-50 ng/mL) levels.1

 Try Supplementing D with P(URE)

Here in Texas, at the PURE home office, we are strong proponents of the sunshine vitamin. Not only do we get a lot of it being in southern climates, but we have some fabulous products that contain it. Below is a list of vitamin D-rich products with their respective amounts. Note that IU on a vitamin label means “international unit.” That’s science lingo for the amount of fat-soluble vitamins in a capsule; vitamins that are stored in the body, versus water-soluble vitamins which are not.

Products by PURE with vitamin D:

How much vitamin D do you need?

According to the Institute of Medicine, 600 International Units (IU) is the recommended daily intake for children and for adults ages 19 to 70. People ages 71 and older should get an additional 200 IU.2 Please note that CalciuMK+ and 360 Complete Shake are safe for children 6 to 12 years of age. Immune6 and Daily Build are safe for children ages 12 years and up.

All it takes is 10 to 15 minutes of sun exposure each day for your body to produce adequate amounts of the vitamin. That can easily be done by walking the dog, going for a quick jog around the block or mowing the lawn. Keep in mind that using sunscreen can block vitamin D absorption. Always be sensible with your time in the sun.

Also, your complexion can factor into your sun exposure needs. Lighter skin absorbs vitamin D quicker than darker skin. People in the northern climates are exposed to less sun than those who live in the south.

Most people get enough vitamin D. However, if you don’t spend enough time in the sun, or if your body has trouble absorbing the vitamin, you may not get enough. So spend some time outdoors and enjoy the beautiful sunshine, wisely. It’s the best way to get your D, and to do your body good.

PURE Destinations – Caribbean Cruise Recap

PURE Independent Business Owners (IBOs) from around the U.S., and corporate staff attended the PURE Destinations 2018 Bahamas Caribbean Cruise on the Carnival Conquest to celebrate accomplishments, relax and build lasting relationships.

Approximately 100 attendees sailed from August 11-16 and enjoyed beautiful ocean views, plenty of sun, delicious meals and plenty of beach time.

To kick off the festivities, IBOs were invited to a reception Saturday night where they were warmly welcomed by Black Diamond IBOs and PURE CEO, Daren Hogge.

On Sunday, guests arrived at Nassau where they had the entire day to discover the island on their own. They visited the Atlantis waterpark and shopped for souvenirs at the stylish boutiques. The peaceful, serene waters provided the perfect backdrop for snorkeling the coral reefs. At the end of the day, guests were treated to a formal Bahamian dinner.

On Monday, the ship arrived at Half Moon Cay. Guests enjoyed lounging on the white sand beach and swimming in the beautiful, blue water. Others chose to saddle up for horseback riding in the water and on land. And, they all enjoyed fellowship, their highlight of the trip.

On Tuesday, guests enjoyed fun leisure activities at Grand Turk. They relaxed on the beach and snorkeled the beautiful water. The more adventurous chose to zip-line while others shopped for local wares.

Wednesday was spent onboard and there were plenty of activities to enjoy — massages, gambling, onboard shopping, yoga, friendly basketball competitions and their favorite, Karaoke! Apparently, we have some really good vocals among our PURE IBOs!  Guests also attended a business meeting that morning where they received valuable training from members of the Leadership Advisory Council.

As cruise attendees disembarked in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on Thursday, they returned to their homes motivated to take on the rest of the year with enthusiasm.

Get ahead of the class, and the germs

New classes and fresh faces mean exposure to germs — a lot of them. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, elementary school children get 8 to 12 colds, or cases of the flu, each school year. For older kids, it is about half that.

It’s not only kids who get sick, teachers get sneezed on and parents miss work when kids have to stay home. What’s the solution?

Hand washing is the number one preventive step children and adults can take to avoid getting sick when going back to school. But there are other ways to keep germs at bay. The following products by PURE contain unique ingredients that help fight internal and external aggressors to keep the immune system functioning at its peak.*

Our best defense is intact healthy skin

Skin Defense by PURE is a unique spray that helps defend from the outside in against unpredictable elements in our environment. Just a few squirts onto your hands attack bacteria, viruses, fungi and infections on the spot. Be sure to add a bottle to your supply list this year. Put a bottle in their backpack and give one to a new teacher!

Now through August 31, you can buy a bundle of three 2 oz. bottles of Skin Defense for only $24.95; 10 PV.*  Contact Sales Support at livepure.com or 866-535-5888 to order.

Hypochlorous acid (HOCI), the active ingredient in Skin Defense, is a naturally occurring chemical that our white blood cells produce every day to fight off bacteria, superbugs and viruses.

What’s really nice is that, unlike alcohol-based hand sanitizers that dry your skin, Skin Defense hydrates. It’s natural, environmentally safe and non-toxic. It is also antibiotic-, steroid- and alcohol-free. It will not irritate sensitive skin and it does not burn. Use frequently on children, especially those who are active in sports, or who come into contact with dirty surfaces.

  • HOCI is effective in killing bacteria, viruses and fungi
  • Higher concentration of HOCI than similar products
  • FDA cleared

The next generation in silver technology

Silver is another product by PURE that is safe for kids age 12 years and up. This liquid spray contains  a patented SilverSol, nano-particle formulation, meaning that the particles are even smaller than colloidal particles.

Silver has been extensively used throughout history. The ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Phoenicians, Romans and Macedonians all used silver to help keep them well. Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, taught that silver supports health and well-being. Herodotus, the Father of History, believed that no Persian king would drink water that was not transported in silver containers. Throughout the Middle Ages, the upper class in Europe would use silver utensils and goblets to ensure safe food and drinking water. In America’s West, it was common practice to drop silver coins into drinking water barrels to ensure the water’s safety.

  • Mix 1 teaspoon (5 pumps) in water and consume up to three times daily.
  • Silver contains 10 parts per million of elemental silver and the only other additional ingredient is purified water.

Help keep that rundown feeling at bay

Immune6 is another product by PURE that is safe for kids age 12 and up. It works by providing vitamins and fortification needed to sustain health and well-being.* It can be taken daily throughout the year. One of the key ingredients, Inositol Hexaphosphate (IP-6), is a plant antioxidant that may boost the immune system.*

  • Excellent source of antioxidant vitamin C, an antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals and may contribute to healthy immune function.* Vitamin C also helps the body absorb iron, in addition to being important for skin, bones and connective tissue.*
  • Excellent source of vitamin D3 that helps the body regulate calcium and phosphorous which contributes to maintaining bone health.* Research shows benefits beyond bone support including helping with immune system support and aiding in muscle strength.*
  • Excellent source of selenium, a mineral found in soil, which neutralizes free radicals and supports a healthy immune system.*

I hear the bell ringing. Are you ready for school? Don’t let the bugs get you down. Learn more about these products by PURE at livepure.com.
